USDA Offers New Funding to Promote the Expansion of High-Speed Internet in Rural Areas

On Monday, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced the availability of $20 million in BIL funding to deliver broadband technical assistance resources for rural communities and expansion of broadband cooperatives. The new Broadband Technical Assistance Program funds feasibility studies, completing network designs and developing broadband financial assistance applications. Funding is also available to help organizations access federal resources, and to conduct data collection and reporting.  

 

DOE Announces $250 Million to Accelerate Electric Heat Pump Manufacturing Across America

On Tuesday, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced a $250 million for the Heat Pump Defense Production Act Program to accelerate electric heat pump manufacturing. Funded by the Inflation Reduction Act, the program will be used to build a clean energy economy, create good-paying manufacturing jobs, and help families save money on their energy bills. Increased use of electric heat pumps, for heating and cooling, will help lower energy costs for more American families and businesses and create healthier indoor spaces through American-made clean energy technologies. 

 

EPA Seeks Input on Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Funding to Support Clean Water in Underserved Gulf of Mexico Communities

On Thursday, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced two virtual RFI opportunities for public stakeholders to share input on a new Bipartisan Infrastructure Law-funded grant program. EPA is developing a program to support clean water in underserved Gulf of Mexico communities. The input gathered will inform a new $25 million Request for Applications (RFA) offered to the five Gulf states of Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas.  

 

DOE Announces $82 Million Investment to Increase Domestic Solar Manufacturing and Recycling, Strengthen the American Clean Energy Grid

On Thursday, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced $52 million for 19 selected projects to strengthen the domestic solar supply chain, and $30 million in funding for technologies that will help integrate solar energy into the grid. The research, development, and demonstration projects aim to enhance domestic solar manufacturing, support the recycling of solar panels, and develop new American-made solar technologies.

 

FHWA Opens Applications for $848 Million in Competitive Grant Funding to Make Roads, Bridges, Transit, Rail, and Ports More Resilient to Climate Change

Today, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) announced the availability of $848 Million in competitive funding for the first round of the Promoting Resilient Operations for Transformative, Efficient, and Cost-Saving Transportation (PROTECT) Program. The PROTECT program aims to reduce damage and disruption to the transportation system and improve the safety of the traveling public. Awarded projects will improve equity and further environmental justice by addressing the needs of disadvantaged communities that are often the most vulnerable to hazards.
