CFS Press Release:

USDA-FS Awards $1.5 Million Community Wood Grant to TimberHP

Friday, June 16, 2023

Capitol Funding Solutions is pleased to announce that a proposal written for TimberHP was awarded $1,500,000 through the Community Wood Energy and Wood Innovation Program.

The U.S. Forest Service has announced $43 million in competitive funding through the Community Wood Energy and Wood Innovation Program. The awards will fund shovel-ready projects that support forest health and stimulate local economies by expanding renewable wood energy and innovative wood products manufacturing capacity.

TimberHP, a start-up wood products manufacturer based in Madison, Maine, was awarded funding to help subsidize the cost associated with the engineering and installation of a finishing line. This installation will expand the manufacturing capacity of TimberHP’s wood fiber insulation boards. Of the 123 awardees, TimberHP received the highest award of $1.5 million.

TimberHP is the first manufacturer in North America to produce a suite of insulating wood fiber composites for the construction industry. The insulation board product is a recyclable, renewable, carbon-sequestering alternative to foam board as an above-grade, continuous exterior insulation in the home construction and renovation market. The awarded funds will establish a finishing line that will produce insulation boards cut precisely to the dimensions demanded by the consumer and edge-finished with a tongue and groove profile that makes the board wind and water-resistant in addition to being a thermal barrier. The finishing line will deliver a product with performance unequaled in the market, saving installers and homeowners time and money. TimberHP expects to complete the installation at their Maine facility by the end of 2024.
