DOE: $7 Billion for America’s First Regional Clean Hydrogen Hubs

Today, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) awarded $7 billion to seven Regional Clean Hydrogen Hubs (H2Hubs) across the nation to accelerate the commercial-scale deployment of low-cost, clean hydrogen. Funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the awarded funding will establish a national network of clean hydrogen producers, consumers, and connective infrastructure while supporting the production, storage, delivery, and end-use of clean hydrogen. The H2Hubs are expected to collectively produce three million metric tons of hydrogen annually, reaching nearly a third of the 2030 U.S. production target and lowering emissions from hard-to-decarbonize industrial sectors that represent 30 percent of total U.S. carbon emissions. 

 

FEMA: $1.8 Billion Available for BRIC and FMA Program to Increase Climate Resilience

On Thursday, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced the availability of $1.8 billion for two grant programs designed to help communities increase their resilience to the impacts of climate change, including increasingly frequent and extreme weather events. The Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) annual grant program is making $1 billion available for projects that protect people and infrastructure from natural hazards and the effects of climate change. The Flood Mitigation Assistance program is making $800 million available for projects that mitigate flood risks facing homes and communities across the nation.

 

EPA: 24 Recipients to Receive Nearly $16 Million in Pollution Prevention Grants to Advance Environmental Justice

On Thursday, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded $16 million in pollution prevention grants to support two grant programs for states and state-sponsored colleges. The Environmental Justice in Communities grant program will provide pollution prevention technical assistance to businesses to improve human health and the environment in disadvantaged communities. The Environmental Justice Through Safer and More Sustainable Products grant program will assist businesses to increase the supply, demand, and use of safer and more sustainable products. Awards provide businesses with technical assistance to develop and adopt practices that prevent pollution at the source in local communities.

 

DOT: $200 Million in Available Funding to Replace Aging Railcars and Improve Reliability and Safety

On Wednesday, The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration (FTA) announced it will provide approximately $197 million this year through the Rail Vehicle Replacement Program. The Rail Vehicle Replacement Program supports funds capital projects to replace rail rolling stock. The goal of the program is to replace aging railcars to improve the reliability, safety, and accessibility of the nation’s rail transit systems.

 

DOC: $13.5 Million in Awards to Support Trade Adjustment Assistance Centers

On Tuesday, the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) announced $13.5 million in grants to 11 Trade Adjustment Assistance Centers (TAACs) to help manufacturers affected by imports adjust to increasing global competition and to create jobs. The centers support a wide range of technical, planning, and business recovery projects that help companies and the communities that depend on them adapt to international competition and diversify their economies.
